On February 6, the sixth day of the first lunar month, the Dragon and Lion Dance performances took place on the beautiful Champs-Elysées to celebrate the Year of the Tiger in the lunar calendar. More than 500 red envelopes were distributed on the spot, and good wishes for the New Year were sent to shopkeepers along the avenue.

The Lion Dance, celebrating the Year of the Tiger, initiated by the Barrière Group and co-organized by Visions France and the Paris Marriott Champs-Elysées Hotel, was held on Sunday, February 6. Representatives of embassies of many countries were invited to attend, Mrs. Jeanne d’Hauteserre, Mayor of Paris 8, Mr. Tonino Panetta, Mayor of Choisy-le-Roy and Mr. Jean-Salem Sakkriou, acting Prefect of 77 were also present at this event.

The lion dance started at L’Hôtel Paris Marriott Champs-Elysées, passing by L’Hôtel Barrière Le Fouquet’s Paris and ending at China Southern Airlines, the event lasted two hours. On that day, the Champs-Elysees Avenue was pedestrianized, and the dragon and lion dance teams could walk directly on the Champs-Elysees Avenue.

Before leaving the Paris Marriott Champs-Elysées Hotel, representatives of the embassies of various countries, the Mayor of the eighth arrondissement of Paris, the acting Prefect of 77, the Mayor of Choisy-le-Roy, and the Presidents of associations and leaders of the co-organizing companies used a paintbrush to “finish the eye” for the lion dance, and the lion dance was immediately “invigorated” and full of vitality.

“The finishing touch” is also very special. Cinnabar is painted on the lion’s eyes, symbolizing giving life, avoiding evil, life or auspicious business and prosperity!

With the sound of gongs and drums, the lion awakening show began. The golden lion and the red lion jumped, changing various postures: sometimes jumping, sometimes tumbling, sometimes playful, and the movements were lively, and the stage was full of cheers. Accompanied by a red lion jumping to a 5-meter pole in two or three steps, the lion pole show pushed the event to the limit. The audience clapped and danced along with the joyous rhythm, and raised their cameras and cell phones to take pictures.

The lion dance performance lasted 30 minutes in the hotel, then strolled down the Champs-Elysees. The sound of gongs and drums, the dance of male lions, dressed in colorful robes, attracted pedestrians on the road, and passing French people repeatedly praised “Bravo!” In addition to the lion dance, a dragon dance team of more than 10 people also appeared on the same day. The long dragon looked up, looked down, looked back, crouched, shook its head and tail, in a variety of poses, full of fun!
